Ethan Ireland is spearheading the production effort for "Summer of Lovecraft". He has worked steadily in theater and film since leaving college. He wrote the kernel of "Summer of Lovecraft" in fall, 1999 after working that summer at a "Mountain Mike's" pizzeria in his hometown. Many of the characters in the script are based (albeit loosely) upon denizens of that foothill town.
The sleepy gold country town of Jackson, California is where this young man grew up. He spent a great deal of his youth hiking in the foothills, exploring old goldmines and annoying local bookstore owners. Ethan is the son of an author, Patrick Ireland, whose award-winning short stories have been published in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. Ethan frequently refers to himself as "an unashamed geek", due to his manifold fringe interests: science-fiction & fantasy literature, roleplaying games, miniatures wargames, comics, computers -- and movies, of course. His bookcase recently collapsed under the strain of holding all his issues of White Dwarf, Mad Magazine and vintage Heavy Metal.
Ethan attended college at California State University, Monterey Bay. He graduated with a combined degree in Directing and Cinematography in 2002. During college, he became an integral part of the film production scene there; hardly a student film was shot between 1998 and 2002 without his involvement somewhere along the line. Eventually, he was hired by the University's film department and began teaching technical labs for the video and film production classes. He and Zac met in Directing class and on discovery of their mutual interests in film, gaming and comics, they struck up a lasting friendship.
After leaving Monterey for the Sacramento area in 2003, he spent the next 18 months writing, directing and producing promotional videos for non-profit agencies. He also went on to shoot documentaries, most notably one on "hacker" culture. Not long thereafter he moved into feature films, employing his cinematographic skills to great effect. He has since worked as a 1st Assistant Camera on several films shot in the greater Sacramento area and has acted in a historical documentary. Now he aims to produce and direct his own feature film.
