Zacharia Berks co-wrote the screenplay for "Summer of Lovecraft". He has been involved in entertainment (specifically theater) since the age of six. Another self-proclaimed geek, he makes no effort to hide his obsession with film, gaming and comics. On his recent move back to Santa Cruz from Sacramento, Zac commented: "...the furniture was nothing; what took the longest was moving my comics collection!"
Zac grew up in shady Ben Lomond, deep in the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains. What time he didn't spend onstage at the Mountain Community Theater or in the comics and gamings stores in downtown Santa Cruz, he spent swinging a sword for the SCA. Zac comes from two generations of visual artists: his mother, a sketch artist and his grandfather, noted New York sculptor Robert Berks.
Zac went to junior college at Cabrillo College, then went on to California State University, Monterey Bay for his BA in film. He and Ethan met in a Directing class and discovered their mutual interests in comics, roleplaying games and film. They have been fast friends ever since. Zac became involved in the film scene at CSUMB after Ethan got him hired at the University's film department and became a fixture on nearly every student film until his graduation in 2003.
Zac stayed in the Santa Cruz area after graduation, where he worked for the local stagehands' union. He moved to the Sacramento area in late 2005 and remained there through early 2007, when he moved back to the Santa Cruz area. While in Sacramento, he got involved in of the feature film scene there. He went on to read an early draft of Ethan's screenplay and began making suggestions. It wasn't long before his contributions became so important he went from revisionist to co-writer. He now assists in the effort to make "Summer of Lovecraft" a reality.
